Strong Towns ideas are being applied in cities and towns in US and Canada.

HALTOM CITY, TX, September 01, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — Strong Towns is a nonprofit that focuses a host of expert engineers, land use professionals, transportation officials, elected officers, journalists, urbanist organizations, and ground-level activists on the matter of building and maintaining financial stability in towns and cities across North America.

In mid-2022, Strong Towns announced it was accepting applications for the Community Action Lab, a 24-month program to help communities identify their needs and take action to address them using resources available within the region.

According to a post on Strong Towns, “Community Action Lab is designed to introduce Strong Towns ideas to your community, shift the conversation on a local level, and kickstart the implementation of a Strong Towns Approach.”

The following communities were selected in January 2023 to hold the inaugural Community Action Lab sessions:

• Lake County, Florida (population 395,804)
• Chisolm, Minnesota (population 4,723)
• Medicine Hat, Alberta (population 63,260)
• Norman, Oklahoma (population 128,097)

“It’s very exciting to think that Strong Towns provides this kind of program to help locals who want to improve the places where they live,” says Haltom United Business Alliance Founder Ron Sturgeon.

“Someday soon, I hope Haltom City will apply and start a collaboration with Strong Towns to bring more opportunity and prosperity to South and Central Haltom City,” he added.

About Haltom City
Haltom City is a diverse, majority working-class city located between Dallas and Fort Worth in Tarrant County, TX. Haltom City is minutes from both the DFW Airport and Downtown Fort Worth with direct access to major highways including I-820 and SH-121. Due to an outdated and restrictive use matrix that discourages new business and deters growth, several areas of Haltom City have seen a decline in small businesses which provided goods and services and were a significant source of jobs, including the once-thriving automotive industry. However, Haltom City can reverse this trend and should prioritize development of inner-city land and vacant buildings, particularly in the major corridors close to the city’s center. The city is financially healthy with a capable manager and staff who would like to see diverse business development occur and need the support of the City Council to make it happen.
