Chevrolet Pack Sprint Car: Celebrating Racing Legend James “PackRat” Pack

Honoring a lifetime of speed, championships, and a 90th birthday milestone

FORT WORTH, TX, April 01, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ — The DFW Car & Toy Museum proudly spotlights the Chevrolet Pack Sprint Car, a piece of racing history tied to one of Texas’ most celebrated drivers: James Pack, known to fans as “PackRat.” This year marks Pack’s 90th birthday, offering a fitting moment to honor his enduring legacy on and off the track.

James Pack began his racing career in the 1960s, competing in weekly shows that quickly showcased his natural skill and fearless driving style. Over three decades behind the wheel, he amassed numerous track championships across Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, culminating in a National NASCAR Modified Championship. His accomplishments earned him induction into both the Heart O’ Texas Speedway Hall of Fame and the Oklahoma Racing Hall of Fame—a testament to his profound impact on the sport.

Today, Pack’s racing heritage lives on through his family. His grandson now drives the very sprint car on display at the museum, keeping the PackRat Racing legacy alive. James continues to guide the team, sharing his expertise on engine builds and lending his support at every race.

“James Pack isn’t just a racer—he’s a symbol of dedication and perseverance in the world of motorsports,” said Ron Sturgeon, founder of the DFW Car & Toy Museum. “We’re proud to feature the Chevrolet Pack Sprint Car in our collection and to honor a man whose influence spans generations.”

The Chevrolet Pack Sprint Car and the story of James Pack stand as reminders of a golden era in grassroots racing—a true celebration of a life built around speed, family, and passion for the sport.
