After 25 years, David Copperfield’s final performance marks the end of an era on the Las Vegas strip
LAS VEGAS, NV, April 23, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ — Peyton Obrien, stage name Peyton Pronto didn’t expect Las Vegas to mean this much.
He came out for work. A chance. Something different than home in Evansville, IN
He didn’t expect to find the thing he grew up looking up to — or to lose it like this.
On April 30, David Copperfield will walk onto the stage at the MGM Grand for the final time. The show that ran for years — the one people traveled across the world to see — will end that night.
For Peyton, it’s not just a closing show.
It’s the last time he’ll be part of something that felt bigger than his own life.
“I don’t think I was ever supposed to be here,” Peyton said. “That’s what it felt like the whole time. Like I got dropped into something I grew up dreaming of, kinda like a movie.”
Peyton worked as a stagehand on the production for several years — never in the spotlight, always just off to the side, making sure everything hit the way it was supposed to.
It was enough for him.
“Copperfield was and still is my hero,” he said. “That never changed. Not one day.”
He said that part is what makes this harder to explain.
“It’s not just a job ending,” Peyton said. “It’s like… something you believed in since you were a kid just stops. And you were lucky enough to be inside it for a while.”
The routine became normal — the late nights, the same crew, the same timing. The kind of life you don’t question while you’re in it.
“You don’t think about the last day,” he said. “You just keep going.”
Now there is one.
April 30.
Peyton says he’s thought more about the moment after the final show than the show itself.
“Just walking out,” he said. “Knowing there’s nothing after that. No call time, no next night. I think that’s what’s been sitting with me.”
He stopped for a second before continuing.
“I don’t know if I’ll ever have something like that again,” he said. “That’s the truth.”
“That was the greatest magic show ever,” he said quietly, “Oprah even agreed, “And I got to be part of it. I don’t think I’ll ever top that.”
“Well… I guess… dreams do come true after all… I came to Vegas believing in the American dream, and guess what, I’m leaving believing in the American dream.”
David Copperfield’s final show will be April 30 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
